UPF swimsuits by SwimZip

Protect your family with our UPF 50+ swimwear collection. From rash guards to swim shorts, our sun-protective swimwear keeps you safe and stylish in and out of the water.

What is UPF on swimwear?

The ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) measures how effectively fabric blocks the sun's rays from reaching your skin. A UPF-rated swimsuit acts as a built-in sunscreen that never washes off.

A swimsuit's UPF rating shows how much UV radiation gets blocked. For example, UPF 50+ (the highest rating available) means the fabric blocks 98% of harmful rays, while UPF 30 blocks about 96.7%. At SwimZip, we use only UPF 50+ fabrics to give you superior sun protection.

The tight weave of our fabrics creates a shield against harmful UV radiation, protecting you from sun damage while keeping you comfortable and stylish. This invisible barrier works even when wet—something regular sunscreen can't always promise.

Our swim top collection includes:

Swim bottoms

Our UPF swim bottoms for women fit every style preference. Choose high-waisted designs for vintage flair and extra coverage, or side-tie options for adjustable fits. For additional coverage, we offer swim skirts, swim shorts, and swim leggings—all with our signature sun protection.

Flat seams prevent irritation, so you stay comfortable all day long. We blend nylon and spandex to create a durable fabric that keeps its shape and color. Inside, a light polyester lining adds support without bulk, for a smooth feel against your skin.

Our protective swimwear combines the best features: 4-way stretch, breathable fabric, and complete UV defense in one stylish package. Whether you're swimming laps or building sandcastles, you'll stay protected and comfortable.

UPF swimwear FAQ

Can UV go through swimwear?

Regular swimwear without a UPF rating will let UV light pass through to your skin. The amount depends on factors such as fabric type. The color of your swimwear makes a minimal difference (eg. darker colors block more rays than light colors). UPF-rated suits block up to 98% of harmful rays.

Is UPF the same as UV protection?

While both protect from ultraviolet radiation, UPF measures fabric's protective abilities specifically, while UV protection refers to any sun-blocking method. UPF comes with a specific sun protection rating that tells you exactly how much radiation the fabric blocks.

Does UPF wear off?

UPF protection won't wash out or fade. The high level of protection comes from the fabric's weave and construction, not a coating or treatment. With proper care, your UPF swimwear will maintain its sun safety properties throughout its lifetime.

Can you tan through a swimsuit?

UPF 50+ swimwear blocks 98% of UV rays, so tanning through the fabric is minimal. This protection prevents long-term skin damage and supports healthy skin. Any exposed skin will still tan, but the covered areas stay protected.

What is the difference between UPF and SPF?

Sun protection factor (SPF) measures protection against UVB rays that cause sunburn. Ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) measures protection against UVB and UVA rays that contribute to premature aging and long-term skin damage.

Check out our in-depth article comparing the differences between UPF and SPF.

What are the different forms of sun protection?

A complete sun defense plan includes UV protection swimwear, broad-spectrum sunscreen, sunglasses, sun hats, and shade structures such as umbrellas. Each layer adds protection but remember that no single method blocks 100% of rays. Reapply sunscreen every two hours.

Can you get skin cancer from too much sun exposure?

You can get skin cancer from too much sun exposure. Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, often results from excessive UV exposure. Sunburns and repeated exposure cause UV damage to skin cells' DNA. Early protection matters most, as childhood sunburns significantly increase adult skin cancer risk.

How does UPF swimwear protect sensitive skin?

UPF 50+ swimwear creates a physical barrier between your skin and the sun's rays. For those with sun sensitivity, eczema, or other skin conditions, our skin-safe fabrics block 98% of UV rays without causing irritation.

What makes SwimZip an amazing sun protection product?

Our swimwear combines maximum sun protection with comfortable fabric that moves with you. Each piece blocks UV rays while staying soft against your skin. Plus, our suits work in warm and cold water, giving you protection in all conditions.

Does sun-protective swimwear prevent all harmful effects of the sun?

No single product blocks 100% of UV rays. We design our swimwear with safety in mind, but you should still use sunscreen on exposed skin, seek shade during peak hours, and wear protective accessories such as hats and sunglasses.
