I purchased this hat for my 8 year old. He had outgrown his (different brand) hat that we bought second hand when he was one year old. It is still in good condition it was finally just too small. So I had high expectations buying a new hat that could live up to the longevity of his previous hat. The only reason I decided to go with SwimZip this time was because the annual BOGO sale just happened to occur right when I was needing to buy a new hat. I like SwimZip for swimsuits so I took a chance with their hats.
Thankfully I was not disappointed, at least for now. The SwimZip hat checks off all comparable features. I think the front and side coverage is a bit more with SwimZip which is a bonus. The hat held up for a week at the beach with sand, salt water, and sunscreen. I just rinsed it off each day and let it air dry on the porch.
Love the stiff front and side brim that stays put in the extremely strong coastal winds. The coverage for the neck is great. And not that we need it anymore for this but it would be good for stroller naps since it lays flat just in the back.
My son did have trouble with the toggle size adjustment bungee at the back of his head. He couldn’t find a comfortable size. It was either too tight or too loose. But I could see it not being a problem if it wasn’t so windy and swimming in the crashing waves.
Pros and cons with our previous brand hat, we like the wider coverage with SwimZip but the size adjustment feature with the other brand was more comfortable and lasted seven years of growth. But can’t completely gage the longevity of SwimZip yet since we have only had it a month.
