Women’s swim shorts with UV protection

Our collection of women’s swimming shorts offers the perfect combination of style, coverage, and comfort to boost your beach and poolside experiences.

Why is sun protection important?

The sun's harmful UV rays cause painful sunburns and sun poisoning; they also increase the risk of skin cancers and premature aging. Our stylish sun-protective swim shorts keep ladies safe while they enjoy the summer sun.

Doctors recommend UV-protective swimwear as part of a complete sun protection plan, along with shade, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Our sun-protective swimwear collection provides peace of mind and extra protection against the sun's rays on long summer days.

Stylish sun protection swim shorts for ladies

Our ladies' swim shorts (or bike shorts) combine fashion, comfort, and functionality for your active lifestyle. With a flattering high waist, longer inseam, and high-quality, quick-drying materials, these shorts provide excellent coverage and compression. You'll feel confident and secure whether swimming, lounging poolside, or running errands.

You can wear our swim shorts as stand-alone swim bottoms—no additional undergarments or swimwear needed. Plus, convenient side pockets keep small essentials close at hand, adding a touch of practicality to these stylish shorts.

Mix and match our ladies' swim shorts with your favorite bikini top, swim dress, or rash guard for a chic, coordinated look with fabulous sun protection. Or, transition smoothly from the beach to the street by pairing these cute and comfy shorts with your everyday clothes.

With women's swim shorts, you get the best of both worlds: function and fashion. They're the missing link between your favorite swimsuit and your go-to active shorts. So dive in, or pedal hard. These shorts are ready for action.

Sizing and fit

Our women’s swim shorts collection offers sizes from XS to 3XL. Check our size chart to see detailed measurements for each size, including bust, waist, and hip measurements. It can also help you measure your body to determine your size.

What is UPF?

Ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) is a rating system that measures a fabric's ability to block UV rays from reaching the skin. Ratings go from 15 to 50+, with higher numbers meaning greater protection.

Fabrics rated UPF 50+ block at least 98% of UV rays, while a 30 rating blocks around 96.7%. Dermatologists recommend choosing UPF 30 or higher for good sun protection.

All our sun-protective swimwear features UPF 50+ fabric—the maximum UV protection level a fabric can offer. The tight weave allows less than 2% of UV radiation to pass through, significantly reducing the risk of sunburn and skin damage.

Swim shorts care tips

Keep your swim shorts in tip-top shape with these tips:

  • Rinse your swim shorts with cold water immediately after wearing them.
  • Hand wash using a mild detergent for delicate fabrics. Gently squeeze the suds through the suit. Avoiding harsh rubbing or wringing.
  • Never put your swimming shorts in the washing machine or dryer. The harsh agitation and heat damage the delicate fibers and cause the suit to lose its shape.
  • To dry your swim shorts, lay them flat on a clean towel. Gently roll the towel with the shorts inside to remove excess water, then lay them flat to air dry in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight.
  • At the end of the season, wash your swim shorts following the hand-washing instructions, then store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid hanging them, as this can stretch out the fabric over time.

Swim shorts FAQ

Should swim shorts be tight or loose?

Swim shorts should have a snug, comfortable fit for ease of movement in the water. They shouldn't restrict movement or cause discomfort or be too loose to create excess drag or risk falling off during active swimming.

Are board shorts the same as swim shorts?

While both are types of swimwear, board shorts are longer, looser-fitting, with adjustable waistbands, and have a more casual style than swim shorts. Swim shorts often have a tighter fit and shorter length, and they are used mostly for swimming and general beach activities.

Check out our comparison of board shorts and swim trunks.

Do swimsuits get bigger or smaller when wet?

Most swimsuits are made from materials that are designed to maintain their shape and size when wet. Some natural fibers, such as cotton, stretch or sag when wet, while certain synthetic fabrics tighten due to water absorption.

What is the difference between UPF and SPF?

Sun protection factor (SPF) measures protection against UVB rays that cause sunburn. Ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) measures protection against both UVB and UVA rays that contribute to premature aging and skin damage.
