Boys’ swim trunks with UV protection
SwimZip's boys' swim trunks give kids the freedom to splash, swim, and play with UPF 50+ sun protection.
About swim trunks
Swim trunks are shorts for swimming and water sports, falling at or above knee length. An interior mesh lining provides support and coverage, and an elastic waistband with a drawstring keeps them secure during movement.
Unlike regular shorts, swim trunks use water-friendly fabrics that dry quickly and withstand chlorine and saltwater exposure.
A mesh lining also prevents the trunks from becoming transparent when wet. Most swim trunks have side pockets and a back pocket with velcro or snap closure for small items.
Stylish and functional swim trunks for your little guys
SwimZip's swimwear collection puts your child's comfort first. Our swim trunks feature an ultra-soft jersey boxer brief liner that stops chafing and rubbing, so kids can play freely all day.
These trunks are available in bold colors and fun patterns, which let your child's personality shine. Choose from solid colors for a classic look or eye-catching designs that stand out at the pool.
Kids love the three pockets—two on the sides and one in the back—perfect for collecting shells and treasures. Each pocket has drainage holes to prevent water buildup. We've even added special eyelets at the back waist to avoid that balloon effect during cannonballs.
Sizes 6–14 include an adjustable drawstring and elastic waist to grow with your child through multiple swim seasons.
Why is sun protection important at the beach?
Sun protection at the beach is important because the water, sand, and open environment multiply your UV exposure. Water reflects up to 25% of UV radiation, while beach sand reflects 15% of UV rays back at your skin.
Without protection, this intensified exposure can cause sunburn, sun poisoning, or long-term harm (premature aging and risk of skin cancer).
Sun safety becomes even more critical during peak hours (10 AM and 4 PM) when UV rays are strongest. The reflection from water and sand means you can burn even while under an umbrella. During beach days, your skin faces UV rays from above and below, so proper protection is very important for every family member.
Children need extra attention since their skin is more sensitive to sun damage. Using UV sun protection through clothing, sunscreen, sun hats, and seeking shade helps create multiple barriers against harmful rays.
What other boy’s swim bottoms do you offer?

Our swimwear fabrics
SwimZip selects fabrics that perform. Our focus on quality delivers a blend of functionality with athletic performance.
Our quick-dry, lightweight materials prevent waterlogging and stay light in and out of water. The moisture-wicking fabric pulls sweat away from your skin, while durable fabric resists chlorine, salt, and sun exposure without breaking down.
Every bathing suit in our collection includes built-in UPF sun protection rated at 50+, blocking 98% of UV rays. Our fabrics protect against premature aging and reduce your risk of skin cancer during outdoor activity.
Our high-quality materials stretch in four directions for a snug, flexible fit. This all-around comfort means you can swim, surf, or lounge without tugging or adjusting your swimwear.
For cold water performance, our high-quality, stretchy material maintains warmth while staying breathable. The ultra-durable fabric construction prevents tears and snags, so your swimwear lasts season after season.
Boys swim trunks FAQ
What is the difference between swim trunks and swim shorts?
Swim trunks typically have a looser fit and built-in mesh lining, while swim shorts often have a slimmer cut and may not include mesh support. Trunks usually feature an elastic waistband with a drawstring, whereas swim shorts might have a fixed waistband or button closure.
How long should boys’ swim trunks be?
Boys' swim trunks typically fall between mid-thigh and just above the knee. For younger boys, a shorter length allows easier movement in the water. Older boys often prefer a longer length, around the knee, which provides more coverage and matches current style trends.
Why do boy’s swim trunks have netting?
The mesh netting in swim trunks provides support, coverage, and modesty while swimming. It also prevents the outer fabric from sticking uncomfortably to the skin when wet. A mesh lining helps trunks maintain shape and offers a secure fit during water activities.
Are swim trunks and board shorts the same?
Board shoes and swim trunks are not the same. Board shorts are longer, often hitting below the knee, and typically don't include a mesh liner. They have a more rigid waistband with lacing. Swim trunks are shorter, include mesh lining, and feature an elastic waistband with a functional drawstring for a more relaxed fit.
Which swim accessories do you offer?
SwimZip offers coordinating beach towels, sun hats, and sunglasses in our accessory collection. These must-have accessories for long summer days provide extra sun protection and convenience.
How do I choose well-fitting swimsuits for boys?
Look for adjustable waistbands, proper length, and a comfortable liner. Watch how your child moves in the suit. Nothing should pinch or restrict their motion during water activities.
What features make perfect boys' swimsuits for active kids?
Quick-drying fabric, secure closures, flat seams to prevent chafing, and durable materials that withstand chlorine and salt water create long-lasting swimwear for energetic swimmers.
