Boys sun protective swimwear

Our boys’ sun protection swimwear blocks over 98% of harmful UVA and UVB rays while looking great.

Why is sun-protective swimwear important?

Sun-protective swimwear keeps children safe while they enjoy summer fun in the sun. The sun's harmful UV rays can cause painful sunburns, and sun poisoning, and increase the risk of skin cancers later in life. Baby and toddlers have delicate, sensitive skin that needs proper protection.

Rash guards, swim shirts, and swim shorts use high-quality materials that offer maximum sun protection. Tightly woven, breathable material shields the skin from UV rays and keeps the body cool and comfortable while out in the sun.

Doctors recommend UV protection swimwear as part of a complete sun protection plan, along with shade, sunglasses, and regular sunscreen application. The right sun-protective swimwear gives parents peace of mind, knowing their children are protected during aquatic adventures in swimming pools, at beaches, or during outdoor activities.

Our selection of sun-protective swimwear for boys will give parents the confidence they need to enjoy summer fun without concern for sun safety.

What is UPF?

Ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) is a rating system that measures a fabric's ability to block UV rays from reaching the skin. UPF ratings range from 15 to 50+, with higher numbers mean greater protection.

Fabrics with a UPF rating of 50+ block at least 98% of UV rays, while those with a rating of 30 block about 96.7%. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends choosing clothing with a UPF rating of 30 or higher for optimal sun protection.

Our sun-protective swimwear features UPF 50+ fabric, which offers the highest level of protection available. This tight-weave fabric allows less than 2% of UV radiation to pass through, significantly reducing the risk of sunburn and skin damage.

How to take care of your UPF 50+ swimwear

Proper care and maintenance of your boy's UPF 50+ swimwear pieces will help preserve its sun-protective properties and extend its lifespan. Follow these simple steps to keep your child's sun-safe swimsuits in top condition:

  • Rinse the swimwear in cold water immediately after each use. This step removes salt, chlorine, and other chemicals that can damage the fabric over time.
  • Hand wash or machine wash the swimwear in cold water using a mild detergent. Avoid using bleach or fabric softeners, as these products can break down the fibers and reduce the garment's UPF rating.
  • Line dry the swimwear in the shade or tumble dry on low heat. High temperatures from direct sunlight or a hot dryer can degrade the fabric's sun-protective properties.
  • Store the clean, dry swimwear in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use. This practice prevents any potential damage from UV exposure and helps maintain the garment's shape and color.

Does your swimwear block UVA and UVB rays?

Our sun-protective swimwear offers protection from both UVA and UVB rays. We understand the importance of shielding your child's sensitive skin from the sun's harmful radiation, which is why we use high-quality, UPF 50+ rated fabrics in all of our swim shirts, rash guards, swim shorts, and sunsuits.

UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin, causing all kinds of skin damage, premature aging, and contributing to the development of skin cancers. UVB rays are the primary cause of sunburns and also play a significant role in skin cancer risk. Our sun-protective swimwear acts as a barrier against both types of UV rays, blocking over 98% of UVA and UVB radiation.

With our UPF 50+ swimwear for your baby boy or toddler, you can feel confident that their delicate skin has the best protection. Our tight-weave, breathable fabrics provide maximum sun safety, comfort, and style—a perfect choice for any parent who wants to keep their little one safe in the sun.

Boys sun-protective swimwear FAQ

Can you get burnt through a swim trunk?

You can get sunburned through a swim trunk, especially if it has a loose weave or light color. UV rays can penetrate the fabric and damage the skin underneath. To minimize this risk, choose swim trunks with a tight weave, darker colors, and a UPF rating of 50+.

SwimZip swimwear is made of UPF 50 fabric to block the sun and prevent you from sunburn and sun poisoning.

What color blocks UV rays the best?

Darker colors, such as black, navy blue, and deep red, block more UV rays than lighter colors. The denser the fabric and the tighter the weave, the better the UV protection. The most effective way to block UV rays is by wearing clothing with a high UPF rating, regardless of color.

Do you need sunscreen under a bathing suit?

While UPF swimwear provides excellent sun protection, apply sunscreen to areas that are covered by a bathing suit. Sunscreen should be reapplied every 2 hours or after swimming or excessive sweating to ensure continuous protection.

Does UV swimwear work?

UV swimwear works effectively in protecting the skin from harmful UV rays. Swimwear with a UPF rating of 50+ blocks at least 98% of both UVA and UVB rays, significantly reducing the risk of sunburn and long-term skin damage. UV swimwear should be used in combination with other sun protection measures for optimal safety.

Why does boys swimwear have netting?

The netting, or mesh lining, in boys' swimwear serves several purposes. It provides support and comfort, helps prevent chafing, and promotes quicker drying of the swimsuit. The netting also offers a layer of modesty and prevents the swimsuit from clinging to the skin when wet, ensuring a more comfortable fit.

Do toddler UV swimwear have better sun protection?

Our toddler swimwear features the same UPF 50+ protection as the rest of our swimwear. Children’s delicate skin is more sensitive to sun damage, making UV swimwear especially crucial for this age group. Some of our toddler UV swimsuits offer additional coverage, such as long sleeves and higher necklines, to provide even better sun protection.
