SwimZip's Valentine's Day Card Activity

Happy Lovers Month!

We just love love, which makes Valentine’s Day one of our favorite holidays! Valentine's Day 2021 may not be filled with dinners and weekends away for many of us, but we can still spend the time with our loved ones. Being stuck at home for this holiday doesn’t have to be a bore, which is why we are sharing one of our favorite crafts!

Below you will find a list of supplies and instructions to make an adorable ASL Valentine’s Day card! You don’t have to use your words to say “I love you,” which is why we particularly love this card. Grab your kiddos and some supplies and get crafting!

Supplies needed:

  • Pink, red, white, and skin toned construction paper- a few different skin tone color options would be great for this craft
  • Markers
  • Glue Sticks
  • Pencils
  • Scissors

Step 1: Fold a piece of construction paper in half to form the base of the card.

Step 2: Trace your child’s hand on one of the skin toned pieces of construction paper.

Step 3: Cut out the hand that you traced.

Step 4: Fold down the two middle fingers of the hand to form “I love you” in ASL.

Step 5: Glue the hand to the front of the card and decorate in any way you like!

Step 6:  Have your child give the card to someone they love!

This craft provides a great opportunity to talk to your kids about ASL and why people use it. Love can be expressed in so many ways and sign language is just one of the many.

That’s it folks! Enjoy this fun and easy craft with your kids this Valentine’s Day!
